Accessibility Statement

We build toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as the practical standard. In building and maintaining this site we hold to:

• Text sized for reading rather than for looking tidy. Main body copy and bulleted lists are set at 20px with generous line spacing, on phones as well as on a desktop.
• Color contrast that is measured rather than eyeballed, in both the light and the dark theme.
• One main heading per page and a logical heading order beneath it, so a screen reader's outline matches what a sighted reader sees.
• A skip link to the main content as the first thing on every page.
• Links that say where they go. "Learn more about stump grinding" rather than "learn more", because a screen reader user tabbing from link to link gets no other context.
• Every form control with a real label attached to it, grouped questions inside a fieldset with a legend, and required fields marked in text rather than only in color.
• Keyboard access to everything you can click, with a visible focus outline that is never removed.
• A layout that reflows to phones, tablets and desktops without anything running off the side of the screen.
• A light and dark theme that follows your device setting by default, with a control in the header to override it.

We think it is more useful to name these than to leave them implied.

• There is no embedded map on this site. Our Google listing is linked instead, so nothing loads from a third party just because you opened a page.
• There is no advertising, no remarketing and no tracking pixel of any kind. The only optional measurement is the site analytics described in the privacy policy, which you can decline.
• There is no automated accessibility overlay or accessibility widget. Those tend to sit on top of a site and interfere with the assistive technology you already have set up. We would rather fix the page underneath.

We fix accessibility problems as we find them and as they are reported, and we check new pages before they go up rather than after.

If any part of this site is hard to use, we want to hear about it, and we will get you the information another way in the meantime. A phone call gets you a person who can tell you the same thing that is on the page.

It helps if you can tell us which page you were on and what gave you trouble, but do not let that stop you getting in touch. "The quote form is unusable on my phone" is a perfectly good report.
