A small Connecticut tree and land company working out of Oxford. Joe runs the jobs himself, quotes them from the ground, and tells you what the work involves before anything is booked.
When you call, you get Joe Hennessey. He owns the company, he quotes the work, and he is on site for it. In this trade it often is not the case: the person who looks at your tree and the person who turns up to take it down are frequently two different companies, and the second one has never seen your driveway.
Hennessey Tree & Landscape removes trees and clears land across Connecticut from a base in Oxford. Tree removal, emergency response, stump grinding, forest mulching, land clearing, brush removal and lawn renovation. Most residential removals run from a few hours to a full day on site, every job is quoted from the ground before it is booked, and emergencies are answered around the clock.

How it started
Joe was ten years old and plowing his neighbors' driveways for pocket money. That turned into landscaping work through school, then into a business he opened properly in 2019 after finishing a business management degree at Southern Connecticut State University.
The degree is not decoration. Most of what goes wrong on a tree job is not the cutting, it is the scheduling, the quoting, and the failure to say plainly what was included. Running that side properly is why a quote here names what happens to the wood, the brush and the stump before you agree to anything.

What makes a difference on the day
Four things that decide whether a removal goes smoothly or turns into a bad week.
The quote comes from the ground
Somebody walks the property, looks at the access and at what the tree could hit, and prices what is really there. A number given over the phone from a description is a guess, and it gets revised the moment the truck arrives.
The wood, the brush and the stump each get an answer
These three are what turn into an argument later. You hear at the quote what leaves, what stays and what is a separate visit, so the end of the job holds nothing you were not expecting.
Access decides the equipment
A gate width, a soft lawn, a septic field or a slope changes what can get in and what it costs. Working that out beforehand is how ruts and flattened beds get avoided rather than apologized for.
The phone is answered at night
Emergencies do not wait for office hours. A call at two in the morning reaches somebody who can say whether this is tonight or first light, and what to do in the meantime.

What we do, and what we do not
We take trees down, grind stumps, clear and mulch land, respond to storm damage, and put ground back into usable condition. That is the whole of it, and it is deliberate: a company that does eight things properly beats one advertising thirty.
We do not hold arborist licensing, which in Connecticut is a separate credential covering work to improve or protect a tree's condition. So, we do not prune, trim, plant or replace trees, and we do not assess or treat tree health. If your tree needs that rather than removal, you will hear it, along with a licensed arborist to call.
That boundary works in your favor. Nobody here has a reason to talk you into a treatment plan when the tree needs to come out, or into a removal when it does not.

Where we work
Seventeen towns across western Connecticut, working outward from Oxford. That is a real service area rather than a list of places we would drive to, and it is tight enough that Joe can get to a property, look at it, and get you a number without it becoming an expedition.
The things that actually decide a job change at the town line: which utility serves you, how far the wetland review reaches, whether a roadside tree belongs to you or to the town, and what the ground does to a stump grinder. We settle all four before the machines are booked, so nothing on the quote moves after you have agreed to it.

Licensed and insured, and you are welcome to ask for the certificate before work starts. Google reviews stand at 4.9 from 32 reviews as of August 2026, and Joe is named personally in a good number of them, which tells you more about how a job actually goes than any promise made in advance.
Any cost range you see from us is a published Connecticut figure, taken from public bid schedules and cost models, attributed and dated where it appears. The local detail comes from municipal plans and state agencies, cited where it is used. That is so you can measure a quote against something real before you call anybody, including us.
